WAITING FOR GODOT

Written by Samuel Beckett

Directed by Maurizio Di Meo

Teatro Antigone Rome 2025

“Let's go." "We can't." "Why not?"

"We're waiting for Godot.”

A deep exploration of Beckett’s masterpiece, reaching into imagination, intimacy, and the complexity of human relationships, while approaching waiting as an existential condition.

This production marks Maurizio Di Meo’s directorial debut in Italy, following earlier stage work in Los Angeles on Time and Sure Thing

The work emerged through a truthful character-building process that blends the creative power of Stella Adler’s approach with the active listening at the heart of the Meisner technique.

BEHIND GODOT

The Four-Month Workshop

The production was born from a four-month workshop guided by Maurizio Di Meo’s work as both director and acting teacher, dedicated to Beckett’s world and to the fragile humanity hidden inside it.

The process unfolded gradually: first through a close analysis of the text, then through improvisation, imagination, and the construction of the characters’ inner lives.

Drawing from the creative force of Stella Adler’s method and from the active listening at the heart of Meisner’s work, the actors were led to explore the complexity of human relationships, the intimacy of waiting, and the truth of the given circumstances.

What emerged was not only a staging of Godot, but a shared investigation into existence, dependence, silence, and hope.
